Renewing the beauty spot

Br. Wolfgang feeds branches into the wood chipper as Fr. Daniel looks on. The monks
are renewing the beauty spot which was an attractive feature at the abbey for many
years. The Spruce hedge was planted in the late 1940s.

Fr. Lawrence DeMong and Abbot Peter admire a model of the Smith barn in Leader Oct.
17. It was built in 1914 by Mr. Smith and it was the biggest barn in North America.
It measured 128 x 400 feet and was 60 feet high. It took 32 carloads of lumber to
build and a carload and a half of nails. The barn was dismantled in 1921.
