Rev. Demetrius Wasylyniuk, O.S.B.
I was raised in Watrous, Saskatchewan where my family farmed. I was a mortician for 14 years before entering St. Peter’s Abbey.
On July 11 of 1989 I made my first vows as a Benedictine monk, and then completed my solemn vows on July 11 in 1992. On June 29, 1996 I was ordained as a monastic priest. On February 17 of 2006 I was granted bi-ritual faculty to celebrate liturgy/sacraments in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. I am presently able to celebrate liturgy in both the Roman Catholic and Ukrainian Catholic Churches.
Priesthood studies were spent at Mount Angel Monastery near Portland, Oregon for six years. I convocated with a B.A. in Philosophy, Master in Divinity and Master in Sacred Scripture.
While living at St. Peter’s Abbey I have held many roles. I was director of student services in the college from 1996 to 1998. I served on the board of governors of the college from 1998 to 2010. I have also been involved in campus ministry. I have been serving St. Peter’s Abbey as guestmaster since April 1 of 1997.
Some of my hobbies include beekeeping, gardening, wine making, managing the orchard and tree trimming.
I enjoy studying languages, especially Hebrew and Greek.
