Death Notice: Peter Froess (1922-2014)

Middle Lake, SK — Peter Froess (92), a long time friend, worker and Oblate of Saint Peter’s Abbey has recently passed on to his eternal reward.  May he rest in peace.

Peter Froess died on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 11:00 a.m in Bethany Home in Middle Lake. He was at the abbey a couple years ago to join in a Christmas party for staff. He often did volunteer work around the abbey after his retirement from his farm some years ago.


Prayer Vigils: 7:30pm, Friday, October 17 at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, SK.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00am, Saturday, October 18, at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, SK.  Presiding: Abbot Peter Novecosky, O.S.B.

Thanksgiving 2014

Muenster, SK — On October 8, the Latin Rite memorial of St. Demetrius, a small gathering took place to celebrate Father Demetrius Wasylyniuk’s 25th Anniversary of Monastic Profession.  Resurrecting an old tradition, Br. Stephen Predy assisted Father Demetrius in distributing the celebratory cake, in much the same way Father Demetrius did when he made his first profession of vows.

For the Birds

Muenster, SK — Br. Wolfgang Thiem checks out his sunflower seed plants in the abbey garden. He harvests the sunflowers in order to feed the chickadees over the winter. But he puts plastic bags over the sunflower heads in fall to protect them from prying birds.
