August brought an end to summer with a raucous thunderstorm with lots of thunder and lightning on Aug. 31. It amounted to 3 inches of rain which was about the amount we received all summer.

The monks had a good harvest of potatoes this year. The potatoes were picked on August 19 and have been stored in the cellar for use during the winter.

Both the monastic community and our neighbours were happy when the U-pick corn season opened the weekend of Aug. 8.
